Women in the World Texas 2017

Dallas

Women in the World held its first ever event in Dallas on December 4th, 2017 at the Dallas Museum of Art.

The event kicked off with opening remarks from Women in the World founder and CEO Tina Brown.

First on stage were women we call “Persisters”; they never give up and persist in the face of extreme pushback and adversity. Zainab Salbi, Founder of Women for Women International, moderated the conversation between three ‘perSisters’: the first female Dallas Chief of Police U. Renee Hall, Retired LtCol first female Marine Fighter Pilot who is now running for Congress in Kentucky Amy McGrath and former NFL coach Dr. Jen Welter.

Women in the World founder Tina Brown spoke with President & CEO of Liberty in North Korea, Hannah Song,  a bold young woman who runs an extraordinary, modern-day underground railroad that rescues North Korean refugees.

Following North Korea’s Angel, Zainab Salbi interviewed Iasia Sweeting, an incredible poet and storyteller who performed a moving poem she wrote while held in captivity by cult members in Atlanta for over four years.

Also on stage was the newest Toyota Mother of Invention, Maxeme Tuchman, who found an innovative way for parents and grandparents who aren’t at home to read bedtime and other stories to children. She was interviewed by Alisha Laventure, an anchor and reporter for the Dallas TV station WFAA.

Finally Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, joined Tina Brown on stage in conversation about leading the battle for women’s health care during a time when reproductive rights are under remorseless attack and the U.S. abortion rate is at its lowest point since Roe v. Wade. Richards learned to go to battle from her mother, Ann Richards, the famed Governor of Texas.
