Women in the World Canada Summit

Women in the World will return to Canada for the second year in a row and will hold a Summit in Toronto on September 10, 2018.

Details on speakers and the topics they'll discuss will be released in the coming months.

In 2017, Women in the World made its first trip north of the border for a day of engaging conversations with some of Canada's leading thought leaders. The event kicked off with with Women in the World founder and CEO Tina Brown interviewing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Gender equality advocate Sophie Grégoire Trudeau also joined a panel discussion on the objectification of women in media and advertising moderated by CBC’s The National anchor Wendy Mesley.

Angelina Jolie appeared in a conversation with Loung Ung to discuss their film First They Killed My Father, directed by Jolie and based on Ung’s bestselling memoir.

Other dynamic speakers included Robi Damelin and Bushra Awad, two extraordinary mothers -- one Israeli and one Palestinian -- who each lost sons in the conflict are transforming their personal tragedy into reconciliation and forgiveness; Felicia Sanders, a survivor of the Emanuel AME Church shooting by a white supremacist in Charleston, S.C.; and renowned historian Margaret MacMillan.

Kara Swisher, Executive Editor at Recode; civil rights attorney Lisa Bloom; and Tamika D. Mallory, who was one of the leaders of the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., discussed how to bust the bro culture.
