Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s It’s?Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the “Freshman Force” (of Congress), poised to take on the establishment.
Independent U.S. press Devil’s Due Comics have created a new “satire that takes aim at Washington” and will “spare no one,” in which a heroic AOC — as the new congresswoman is affectionately known — takes on the GOP in an anthology of short stories, due out in May.
Styled on alternate covers as a warrior with a sword, or in her white power suit and grasping a smartphone, the comic-version congresswoman’s catch cry is “New party, who dis?”
Heavy on the D.C. imagery, an elephant lies underfoot, while a donkey stands anxiously behind AOC, against a background of the Capitol building.
The creators at Devil’s Due — who previously published Barack the Barbarian: No F#¢*s Left!? — have been sure to make clear that Ocasio-Cortez has not endorsed the project, although she is known to be a fan of comics.
“It’s no secret that AOC has become the unofficial leader of the new school, and has sparked life back into Washington and that’s reflected in the enthusiasm on display by the men and women contributing to this project,” Devil’s Due publisher Josh Blaylock told Comic Book Resources. “While we all don’t agree on everything, we share a common excitement for the breath of fresh air the new Congress brings. I hope this is as much a cathartic release for readers as it has been for us creators.”
“Grab a hamberder and cup of covfefe and prepare to enjoy this read!,” Devil’s Due joke in their marketing material.
