Viral video shows ‘trans-exclusionary radical feminists’ yelling at human rights worker

By WITW Staff on February 1, 2019

Video of a transgender human rights activist being verbally harassed by two British trans-exclusionary radical feminists (TERFs) has gone viral, prompting condemnation from LGBT activists who say the incident serves as a reminder of the bigotry that trans people routinely endure worldwide.

Sarah McBride, a trans woman who serves as national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, was accosted by TERFs Posie Parker and Julia Long after McBride finished up a conference with Congress members and parents of trans youth. Parker posted live video of the confrontation to her Facebook page on Wednesday morning, proudly displaying herself and Long as they insulted and misgendered McBride while accusing her of championing transgender rights as a ploy to help men get into women’s prisons so that they could rape them.

“Why are you championing the rights of men to access women in women’s prisons? And rape and sexually assault them as recently happened in the United Kingdom?” demanded Long.

“Why don’t you care about lesbian girls at 14 having double mastectomies? Why don’t you care about that, Sarah?” chimed in Parker. The two TERFs also pressed McBride, who remains silent throughout the entire tirade, on her support for the Equality Act, an unpassed 1974 bill that sought to amend the Civil Rights Act to provide LGBTQ people with equal protections under the law.

On Wednesday afternoon, McBride addressed the video in a tweet referencing The Gay Star News’ coverage of the incident.

“This happened to me earlier today,” she wrote. “We had just concluded a really powerful meeting with parents of transgender youth and members of Congress and I won’t let this incident diminish the love, pride and solidarity that filled that room just moments before … The sad truth is that this kind of harassment is the reality for far too many transgender people, particularly trans women of color, across the country and around the world.”

According to Olivia Dalton, the Human Rights Campaign senior vice president for communications and marketing, the extreme feminists were only in the U.S. to attend a conference on the “left’s embrace of the transgender agenda” held by American conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation. It is has not been confirmed whether or not Parker and Long were invited to attend the conference.
