Golden Girls may have been off the air since 1992, but fans are still clamoring for a taste of Dorothy, Rose, Sophia and Blanche — quite literally. As Yahoo reports, a bright-blue cereal inspired by the show has been flying off the shelves.
In late September, the brand Funko released a limited-edition Golden Girls cereal, each box containing a little figurine of one of the characters, at select Target stores. Fans didn’t seem to be put off by the cereal’s relatively hefty $7.99 price tag, because the sweet stuff was soon hard to find. “[V]ery irritated w/your website currently,” one Twitter user wrote to Target. “I’m searching for the ‘Funko’ Golden Girls cereal’ in the Toledo OH area & it pulls up everything ‘but’ in the search engine.”
The cereal is limited edition, and a Funko representative told the Today show that the company currently has no plans to bring it back once supplies run out. Those with a truly ardent love for the show — and some cash to burn — can find the cereal on eBay. The mark-up is usually only mildly exorbitant; most boxes are selling for less than $50, though there are some that run as high as $100. That’s a high price to pay for missing the blue cereal boat, but as Blanche once said, “Better late than pregnant.”
And if you aren’t lucky enough to score some of the Golden Girls cereal, here’s a video montage of some of the most memorable moments from the iconic sitcom.
