First lady Melania Trump joined British Prime Minister Theresa May’s husband just outside London on Friday while their spouses were meeting with the press for a visit to Royal Hospital Chelsea, a retirement home for veterans of the British Military. After touring the facility, the first lady met with some schoolchildren and then tried her hand at a sport that dates back some 700 years: lawn bowling.
Video of her squaring off with Philip May — while getting some pointers from some of the schoolchildren — showed Melania getting into the game, while showing no signs of any adverse effects from her recent surgery, and actually winning. The lawn bowling capped the visit, but prior to the cordial game, she took some time to speak about her “Be Best” campaign. We don’t really know what she said about it, though, because, according to The Associated Press, reporters were shuffled out of the room before she began her remarks. Presumably she steered clear of mentioning her husband’s remarks about Theresa May in an explosive tabloid interview he gave just before arriving.
One thing the first lady and her host were also careful to steer clear of is the angry protests raging in London, led by women, against her husband’s presence in the country, where demonstrators carried signs that read “F*ck Trump!” and “Viva the Vulva!” chanted slogans like, We are family, I’ve got all my sisters with me,” The Guardian reported.
