Looming large over Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding was the absence of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. The couple made numerous efforts to pay subtle tributes to Diana throughout their big day. The choice of flowers — Forget-me-nots, Diana’s favorite — and the couch featured in one of their official wedding portraits were used as reminders of Harry’s mom, People reported, among other small recognitions of her importance.
If Diana had been looking down at the day’s events, her perspective on the royal nuptials may have looked a lot like what one news photographer captured. Observers on social media were riveted by one serendipitous photo shot by Press Association staff photographer Yui Mok. The image was taken from above as the newlyweds made their ride around Windsor in a carriage pulled by white horses. Social media users were so moved by the image that they used a hashtag on Twitter to deem it #DianasView.
According to Good Housekeeping, the photo was also very revealing about Meghan and Harry’s relationship. Their hands clasped together, and their body language — the way their bodies are facing each other seem to form the outline of a heart — are all indicative of genuine love, experts said. “Typically heart-shaped body language requires two people to have their heads facing one another, but this is a unique circumstance,” one expert told Good Housekeeping. “The way their bodies naturally turn toward one another indicates that this an emotional moment rather than an intentional one,” another expert noted.
Mok, the photographer even answered questions on Twitter to explain how he snagged the captivating image in just a split second. “I was positioned on the roof of George IV Gateway of Windsor Castle, and they passed directly beneath me during their carriage procession,” he said, adding, “I had less than a one-second window to take that particular shot — whilst having to focus through a metal grill I was standing over — so was happy to get anything really!” For more on the story, watch the video below.
