“I love New York. I’ve never wanted to live anywhere else,” former Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon says in her campaign launch video, which was posted on Twitter Wednesday announcing her plans to take on incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo in the 2018 election. In the video, Nixon says New York is “now the most unequal state in the entire country, with both incredible wealth and extreme poverty.” She adds that the state’s leaders “are letting us down.” The video is extremely cinematic and in it, Nixon makes a number of vows, including a promise “to turn the system upside down.”
Last week, according to The New York Times, Cuomo addressed the possibility of Nixon mounting a bid for governor by insisting “I’m not nervous about whoever runs. There’ll be people who run. That’s called elections, and that’s fine.”
If Nixon is able to unseat Cuomo in the Democratic primary and then win the general election, she would become the first female governor in the Empire State’s history. Watch her campaign launch video below.
