New York Magazine’s The Cut has obtained footage of MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews making a disturbing joke before an interview with Hillary Clinton.

During the interview set-up, Matthews first asks off-camera colleagues, “Can I have some of the queen’s waters? Precious waters?” He then goes on to say, “Where’s that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?” — a reference to allegations against Bill Cosby, who has been accused of sexually assaulting dozens of women, some of whom say the comedian drugged them before molesting them. Matthews then laughs.

His staffers, however, reacted to the joke with shock; one woman’s mouth drops, while another shakes his head and covers his face with his hand.

Matthews apologized for his comments in a statement given to The Cut. “This was a terrible comment I made in poor taste during the height of the Bill Cosby headlines,” he said. “I realize that’s no excuse. I deeply regret it and I’m sorry.”

But as the publication points out, this is not the first time that Matthews has been caught making disparaging remarks about Clinton. He has called her “witchy,” “anti-male” and “uppity.” He once pinched her cheek. He also implied that her political success was due to the fact that her husband had “messed around.” Below, watch the footage of the disturbing moment.
