Monica Lewinsky has called out HLN after the CNN sister network announced an upcoming special called The Monica Lewinsky Scandal, questioning why media outlets still insisted on shaming her — then an intern — for what was really then-President Bill Clinton’s scandal. In a tweet on Tuesday, Lewinsky offered some more appropriate titles, such as The Clinton Impeachment or The Starr Investigation, a reference to independent counsel Kenneth Starr’s 445-page report on Clinton’s sexual activities.

“Fixed it for you,” she wrote. “You’re welcome.”

The Washington Post reported that the network noticed Lewinsky’s editing job and even agreed to change the title of the special — ever-so-slightly. Alison Rudnick, HLN’s vice president of communications, said in a statement, “Taking into account recent events, and to more accurately represent the storyline, the episode is now titled “The Clinton-Lewinsky Scandal.”

In 2014, Lewinsky broke a decade-long silence by writing Shame and Survival for Vanity Fair, a powerful and candid essay that detailed the public shaming and humiliation she was subjected to as media outlets, tabloids, and even Hillary Clinton allegedly sought to blame her for her consensual relationship with Bill Clinton. Over the past few years, Lewinsky has been outspoken about her experience as the “Patient Zero of internet shaming” and become a social activist who teaches about the far-reaching impact of cyber-bullying — which effects an estimated 50 percent of teenagers. And if the recent phrasing of the title for HLN’s special on Clinton’s impeachment is any example, it would appear that many in the media and elsewhere could stand to learn a lesson from her.
