Beyoncé is this year’s highest-earning woman in music

By WITW Staff on November 21, 2017

All hail Queen Bey, who is the highest-earning female artist of 2017, according to a tally by Forbes magazine.

Beyoncé raked in an impressive $105 million between June 1, 2016 and June 1, 2017 (the ranking looked at pretax income). Her hefty earnings can be attributed to the success of her album Lemonade, which saw her score her sixth solo number one hit, and her subsequent Formation World Tour.

Adele ranked second, with earnings of $69 million. Both women outpaced other artists on the list by a significant margin. Taylor Swift, the third-highest earner, pulled in $44 million, though that number will likely rise considerably next year; her new album, Reputation, was released earlier this month and is already the highest-selling album of 2017.

It’s not all good news, however. Forbes notes that there are “more than twice as many men than women among music’s top-earning stars.”

Among the other artists to make the top 10 were Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez and two women whose star power has endured over several decades.
