Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, reportedly gave President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Arabella Kushner, an “A+” for her Mandarin skills after Trump shared videos on his tablet of the 6-year-old singing and reciting in Mandarin. Arabella had become a viral sensation in China late last January, after her mother, Ivanka Trump, shared video of her singing in Mandarin in celebration of the Chinese New Year. Commenters on Weibo had praised the youngster for the “perfect” command of Mandarin she displayed, with many users pointing out that she already appeared “much more sensible” than her grandfather.

While Arabella was not in attendance during Trump’s tour of China, Xi did get to meet her personally in April, when he visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump, despite tough talk about China’s trade practices during his campaign, has reportedly praised China during his current trip “for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of their citizens.”
