Despite playing the role of sexuallly liberated lawyer Molly on HBO’s Insecure, 33-year-old star Yvonne Orji has told PEOPLE magazine that in real life she’s a dedicated Christian who’s saving her virginity for marriage.
“I’m open, because why not?” she told PEOPLE. “People ask about it because they’re curious, or they may not understand. How will they ever get [to] understand if I don’t talk about it? I can inform your curiosity, as opposed to everyone being in the dark and just sort of creating their own narrative about it.”
On social media, however, everybody and their mom couldn’t help themselves from chiming in with their own opinions, as some users sought to shame Orji for being a virgin much in the same way that others try to shame women for having sex before marriage.
Being a virgin at 33 not because you're asexual, or have an issue attracting partners, but because of religion is sad. Not sorry. https://t.co/xxVFXS90sR

Still incredulous that people are shaming Yvonne Orji for being a virgin.
What happened to doing what you want with your body? Smh.

Regardless of one’s religious beliefs (or lack thereof), one thing everybody should be agreed on is that it’s Orji’s choice what she does — or doesn’t do — with her body.
