On Monday, reports surfaced in The Olive Press that a 13-year-old girl had been gang raped by a group of minors on a beach in Alicante, a city in southern Spain frequented by British tourists. The attack supposedly took place during the San Juan festival, a popular celebration that marks the beginning of summer.

According to witnesses, the assault took place on the beach before the group continued to walk through Cabo de las Huertas, a high-end area of Alicante.  The boys in the group were between the ages of 13 and 15 years old, witnesses told police. After the initial attack, the group allegedly attempted to sexually assault a second girl. But the attack was thwarted when the girl’s father stepped in and called the police, which led to arrests. The youths were described by locals as Moroccan teenagers.
