How a top GE exec responded to male headhunter who kept bringing her only male job candidates

Beth Comstock actually faced this conundrum. Here’s the response she had that you need to hear

General Electric made headlines last week amid a corporate shakeup that saw longtime CEO Jeffrey Immelt announce that he’s stepping down as the company’s CEO. John Flannery, the president and CEO of G.E. Healthcare, will take over the reins on August 1. Some analysts and investors, according to CNBC, saw the change coming and welcomed it, but one constant at the conglomerate is vice chair Beth Comstock, who sat down and spoke with Tina Brown for the latest episode of She-Suite.

Brown and Comstock covered a number of topics, including her mantra for success, the importance of asking your biggest critics for advice on how you can improve, the trait she worked the hardest to overcome on her rise to the top, advice for millennials, and how she once responded to a male headhunter who continually presented only male candidates to her.

Comstock also discussed whether women CEOs have a greater responsibility than male CEOs to develop a pipeline for women employees. “I think a female CEO has a responsibility for getting the most diverse minds and people they can around the table and running their different organizations,” she said.
