Rebeca Abrantes, a 24-year-old newlywed from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, had always dreamed of having photos taken that showed her and her best friends prepping for her big day. The internet was awash in these sorts of photos. The only problem was, as her recent wedding date approached, she wasn’t exactly awash in “girlfriends.”
“I came up with the idea one week before the wedding,” Abrantes explained to the website Bored Panda. “I was looking into some ‘making of’ pictures of brides with their gang of girls, all in robes, laughing, drinking champagne and all, and I got a bit sad because I wouldn’t be able to do anything like that.”
Abrantes studies computer engineering, a male dominated field that is so one-sided at her school, she’s just one of four women in a class of 60, something that she thinks has contributed to her having mostly male friends. It turned out, though, that her lack of female friends wasn’t actually a problem for her bridal photo dreams because all of her male friends were happy to don pink satin robes and indulge her bridal fantasies for a photo shoot.
She posted the results, snapped by photographer Fernando Duque on her Facebook page, and the images have been racking up thousands of likes. They showed Abrantes and her “bridesmaids” doing many traditional bridal party activities including doing shots of booze, pampering the bride, getting cucumber facials, and shaving their legs together.
“I am very happy with the photos,” who has since tied the knot, said. “Sometimes I look at them and find myself laughing like crazy. But I never imagined this would become so viral.”
