Trump expands ban on international funds for abortions

Senior White House officials this week announced that the expanded “Mexico City Policy” had gone into effect, meaning that President Trump will expand a ban on federal dollars funding international groups performing abortion or even providing abortion information. The expanded ban, dubbed “Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance,” would apply to any groups receiving global health assistance from the U.S. About $8.8 billion in funds could be impacted by this ban (up from $600 million in previous versions), which would apply to groups working on issues as HIV/AIDS, malaria, maternal and child health, reproductive issues and global health.
