Australian woman speaks out about being stalked, stabbed by man she met on Tinder

May 8, 2017

Angela Jay, an Australian doctor, was stabbed 11 times and had petrol poured over her by Paul Lambert, a man she met on Tinder. After she ended their six-week relationship because she felt “smothered,” Lambert became obsessed and started stalking her. At one point, he even showed up at her doorstep and stole her house keys, prompting her to report him to the police and change her locks. Nevertheless, Lambert was able to break into Jay’s home on last November. “As I was turning the corner to enter my bedroom, he jumped out at me and I screamed and he put his hand around my mouth so that I couldn’t scream and looked me in the eye with a really intense look and said, “It’s OK, I just want to talk’,” she remembers. “I didn’t actually feel him stabbing me but I could see the blood when I looked down and I just thought in my head, ‘Oh my god, he’s actually stabbing me. He’s actually going to kill me.’”

After he doused her in petrol, she was eventually able to escape and reach her neighbors for help, while Lambert fled the scene. He was shot and killed by policemen two hours later. Since the incident, Jay has become an advocate for domestic violence with the Australian “White Ribbon” campaign.
