Jeannie Gaffigan, the wife and creative partner of comedian Jim Gaffigan, underwent surgery to have a life-threatening brain tumor removed and is now in recovery. Gaffigan shared the news on his Facebook page, explaining that an MRI had revealed a large tumor around her brain stem some two weeks ago, which was completely removed after nine hours of urgent surgery. “She is now recovering at home. We thank you for your continued prayers,” he added. Jeannie, who is a writer, director and producer on The Jim Gaffigan Show, also updated her fans on Instagram, writing “I’m coming back! Thanks for your prayers. I’m alive!” The pair has been married since 2003 and have five kids together.

In a 2015 interview with Women in the World, Jeannie Gaffigan discussed balancing the working relationship with her husband and being a mother. “I’ve been able to have complete creative fulfillment in this relationship without being the front person,” she said. “I’ve also been able to have five kids … If I had said, ‘I need to go my own way,’ I would have taken the resources away and split the resources, instead of pooling the resources … I care more about Jim’s career, his material, more than anyone else in the world except him. We’re on the same team, and we’re going for the same thing.”

I'm coming back! Thanks for your prayers. I'm alive!
