Cambodian actress banned from entertainment industry for being too ‘sexy’

April 27, 2017

Cambodian actress Denny Kwan has been banned for one year from the country’s entertainment industry by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts due to her “refusal to curb her sexy clothing style,” according to The Phnom Penh Post.

Speaking with Cambodia Daily, Chamroeun Vantha, director general of the Culture and Fine Arts ministry’s disciplinary council, said that Kwan had been banned for refusing to “follow the code of conduct of artists.”

“On top of that,” Vantha continued, “we had already invited her once to be educated and she promised that she would act in accordance with the advice, but she has still been doing the same.”

Kwan reportedly went through the ministry’s “education” last year after photos emerged of her wearing a revealing dress. According to the Phnom Penh Post, her ban from the entertainment industry is in line with the Artists’ Ethical Code of Conduct, which requires that artists dress “with their personal dignity and national identity in mind.”

Kwan has since accepted the ban and apologized for being too “sexy” and vowed to curb her sex appeal in future social media posts.

“I know it’s my right to [dress how I want],” Kwan told Cambodia Daily. “I will try not to be as sexy as I usually am when I post on Facebook.”
