Cuba Gooding Jr. under fire after lifting co-star’s dress at film panel

Actor Cuba Gooding Jr. has come under fire after a somewhat creepy move during an American Horror Story film panel in New York City on Sunday night. The Oscar-winner was appearing onstage with his cast mates and was seated next to Sarah Paulson, whom he also worked with on last year’s hit FX mini-series The People v. O.J. Simpson.

As Kathy Bates was introduced and arrived onstage, Paulson stood to greet her and Gooding, along with the rest of the cast that was onstage, rose from his seat to applaud Bates’ arrival. As he applauded, Gooding paused and looked at Paulson, whose back was turned to him. He then crouched down and grabbed the end of Paulson’s purple dress, which fell to about the lower third of her legs, and lifted it up, appearing to fix his gaze on her backside as he did. As soon as Paulson realized what was happening, she appeared to be startled. She abruptly grabbed at the dress to wrest it from Gooding’s clutches and spun around, appearing to shout something at him. The entire incident was caught on video and posted on social media.

It wasn’t clear whether the awkward moment between the two was playful or not — they play a husband and wife on the latest installment of the FX series — but social media users were unsurprisingly creeped out by Gooding’s inappropriate, at best, move. Some wondered whether he would approve of an older man doing the same to his daughter.

Neither performer has addressed the incident on social media and The Huffington Post reached out seeking comment, but hadn’t heard back from either performer’s camp as of Monday morning.
