Security footage shows alleged Kim Jong-nam assassin wearing ‘meme’ shirt

February 15, 2017

One of the women suspected of assassinating Kim Jong-nam, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un’s half-brother, has been allegedly identified on CCTV footage shown on South Korean and Malaysian TV stations on Tuesday. In the footage, a dark-haired woman wearing a skirt and a white top that reads “LOL” can be seen at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 in Malaysia at around the time that Kim was reportedly attacked.

Authorities say Kim Jong-nam died in Malaysia on Monday after being poisoned at an airport by two female assassins who are believed to have either stabbed Jong-nam with poison-tipped needles or sprayed a deadly chemical in his face before fleeing the scene in a taxi.

“He told the receptionist at the departure hall that someone had grabbed his face from behind and splashed some liquid on him,” said police chief Fadzil Ahmat, according to Malaysian newspaper The Star. “The victim experienced a mild seizure. He was put into an ambulance and was being taken to the Putrajaya Hospital when he was pronounced dead.”

A woman initially detained at the airport has been arrested in connection with the murder, CNN reported. It is not yet clear, however, whether she is the same woman shown on the CCTV footage.

On Wednesday, South Korean acting president, Hwang Kyo-ahn, appeared to insinuate that Kim Jong-un was responsible for his brother’s murder in comments made to top security officials, according to his spokesman. “If confirmed,” he warned, “the murder of Kim Jong-nam would be an example that shows the brutality and inhumane nature of the North Korean regime.”
