3 men arrested in Sweden after allegedly streaming a group rape on Facebook

By WITW Staff on January 26, 2017

Three men were arrested on Sunday in Sweden for allegedly taking part in a group rape that was streamed live on a closed Facebook group. On Tuesday, police spokeswoman Lisa Sannervik said that a teenager and two men in their twenties were arrested in Uppsala after police received tips from social media users about the ongoing streaming of the rape. She added that no charges have yet been filed, as investigation into the “serious sexual offense” remained in “a preliminary phase.”

On Monday, deputy chief prosecutor Magnus Berggren told Sweden’s TV4 channel that investigators didn’t possess “the footage showing the alleged assault.” He has asked that anyone with “access to this footage” hand it over to the proper authorities.
