An unidentified man who was flying from Sydney, Australia, to San Francisco on New Year’s Day was forced to deboard the plane after causing a scene, insulting a flight attendant amid a “racist, homophobic, misogynistic” rant in which he called the crew member a “fat ass.” Another passenger, Anjou Ahlborn Kay, captured much of the incident on video and posted a video clip of it on Facebook.
“A bigoted passenger screamed racist, homophobic, misogynistic, disturbing words to passengers and crew, then called the flight attendants every offensive thing in the book. Kudos to the flight attendants who remained calm but really sucks this one idiot has grounded us,” Kay wrote in the post. The captain eventually decided to turn around the plane, causing a sarcastic response from the man. “Do you know how cool it would be to have the airplane turned around? You’d do that?” The plane eventually landed in Auckland, where the man was arrested by police. The 252 people on the flight were stuck in the city, however, and had to be put up in hotels. “Kudos to the flight attendants who remained calm but really sucks this one idiot has grounded us. Luckily made friends with my amazing seat mates as we dealt with the last 24 hours,” Kay wrote in another post. The outburst is just the latest example of men being unable to control themselves on a flight and acting aggressively toward women. Last October, a male passenger was kicked off an Alaska Airlines flight after catcalling a flight attendant — an incident that, similarly, was documented on social media.
