FBI makes disturbing new allegations against former U.S. Gymnastics doctor accused of sexual assault

December 22, 2016

An FBI agent on Wednesday unveiled disturbing new allegations against Larry Nassar, a doctor who provided treatment for USA Gymnastics for nearly two decades. Nasser was arrested last week on federal child pornography charges. He had previously been charged with sexually abusing a young girl at his home and is named in more than 60 police complaints and three lawsuits. Accusations against Nasser began flooding in from former gymnasts earlier this year.

At a hearing on Wednesday to determine whether Nassar should continue being held in custody, FBI agent Rod Charles presented a judge with the latest alleged discoveries about the disgraced physician. According to Charles, the FBI seized more than 37,000 images and videos of child pornography, some featuring girls as young as 6 years old. Charles also alleged that Nassar used a GoPro camera to record himself sexually molesting young girls in a swimming pool. One of the girls, Charles said, was a longtime family friend that he said Nassar repeatedly abused.

More than 60 women have come forward alleging they were sexually assaulted by Nassar, a formerly elite physician in his field. Several of the women making claims against him are former gymnasts. Nassar had maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to all the charges he’s facing.
