House of Santa

Meet ‘Mrs. Claus’ — a 76-year-old woman with a most quirky passion

By WITW Staff on December 18, 2016

There’s a woman who everyone knows as “Mrs. Claus” — and she lives in Manila, Philippines. Carmen Suva said that she fell in love with Santa Claus when she was 10. She still has the Santa Claus miniature figure her mom gave her — the first of what would soon be many.

“My mother, she gave me a Santa Claus — a small one,” Suva recalled in an interview with Mashable. “That was my first Santa Claus. And then all my relatives and friends, they started giving me Santa Claus.”

At age 76, Suva is now in possession of more than 3,000 Santa Claus figures. Each year, hundreds gather to witness the moment Mrs. Claus turns on the Christmas lights of her House of Santa Claus. And if they’re lucky, they might even get to meet Mrs. Claus herself.
