A thank you note from a Virginia mother to her ex’s new girlfriend has gone viral, racking up almost 10,000 shares on Facebook.

Posting on the Love What Matters Facebook page, 24-year-old Audrey Loving shared a picture of her daughter and Whitney McGraw, who is dating the child’s father. “This is my daughter’s father’s girlfriend,” Loving wrote. “The sweetest thing ever! I’m super thankful for her because when [my daughter] visits her dad she feeds her, takes care of her, buys her gifts, and basically takes care of her like her own.

“Why do all these moms act so spiteful and jealous towards the other women?” Loving continued. “NOONE said it was easy trying to be a mother to a kid you didn’t have. So when there is someone trying, don’t push them away! Because they DON’T need the drama they WILL leave and then you’re stuck with someone who is the evil step mom.”

In the some 2,400 comments on the post, other Facebook users shared their experiences as members of blended families. “My mom took my stepmom out to lunch when she and my dad were getting serious,” one woman wrote. “They really hit it off and became friends. I even went on vacation with my mom, dad, and stepmom. When my dad and stepmom got divorced, she and my mom stayed friends. It really did make life easier for us kids.”

Loving told The Huffington Post that her own divorced parents taught her how to foster a positive environment as families shift and expand. “I never heard negative talk about the other parents,” she said. “They raised me, my step-sisters and half-sisters the right way and that’s what I learned from. It all starts at home.”

She also said that McGraw was overwhelmed when she saw the thank you note. “It had her in tears,” Loving said. “Happy ones.”
