Woman, 80, marries for the 1st time

November 22, 2016

Maria Cobar finally found true love. At 80 years old, the Florida woman got married, for the very first time, to her 95-year-old beau Carlos Suarez, a widower at Aventura Plaza, the nursing home in Miami Beach where the two live. The happy couple was joined by 100 friends, family and some of the nursing home staff. Cobar had never married. She immigrated to the U.S. from Guatemala when she was 26 years old as a single mother. Her daughter, Ana Cobar told ABC News that the wedding was “amazing” and said that her mother had called her right away when she had met Suarez. “The first day she saw him, she told me that she met this very interesting person,” Ana Cobar recalled. “She said he was very nice and very respectful. She was excited.”

The two first met in February and were married on November 10 in a ceremony that included a three-tiered cake and champagne toast. “I’m so happy that she’s finally found the one to marry,” Ana Cobar said. “And I’m happy for her because even though I go visit her often, it’s not the same as someone to share your life with,” she added. “I’m very happy for that, and we’re very blessed that we found Carlos.” See some highlights of their big day in the video below.
