Sofia Vergara’s embryo lawsuit has taken a bitter turn

November 15, 2016

Sofia Vergara has been locked in a legal battle with her ex-boyfriend, Nick Loeb, since 2015, and the fight between the former couple has become remarkably sordid. The actress, Page Six reports, is now demanding that Loeb reveal the names of two ex-girlfriends who underwent abortions some 20 years ago.

The discord began when Loeb filed a lawsuit to bring to term two frozen embryos that he had created with Vergara while they were still a couple. Vergara, who is now married to Joe Manganiello, wants the embryos destroyed. “A child needs a mother and a loving relationship with parents who don’t hate each other,” she told Howard Stern last year. “I wouldn’t want to bring kids to the world where it’s already set against them. It would be so selfish.”

Vergara’s legal team has asked to question two of Loeb’s former girlfriends, who both terminated pregnancies, in an effort to probe into his sexual past. A California judge granted the request; Loeb appealed, but a Court of Appeals upheld the original decision.

Loeb, 41, told Page Six that he “would rather go to jail than reveal the names.” He added, “I believe we have to protect a woman’s right to privacy.”
