Two public officials in West Virginia have come under fire after one of them made a racist post made on Facebook about first lady Michelle Obama and the other praised the ugly remark. Both women are now facing calls for their dismissal.
Pamela Ramsey Taylor, the Clay County Development Corp. director, made the incendiary post following the election of Donald Trump last week. “It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels,” she reportedly said in the post. Beverly Whaling, Clay’s mayor, responded to the post saying, “Made my day Pam.” According to The Associated Press, the post was liked and shared hundreds of times before being deleted. Also apparently deleted were Taylor and Whaling’s Facebook pages as word of their hateful commentary spread. A petition calling for their firing had racked up more than 17,000 signatures as of late Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, the city council is expected to meet, at which point the two officials could learn their fate.
