Oprah Winfrey, who publicly backed Hillary Clinton during the presidential race, has been criticized for her hopeful comments about president-elect Donald Trump.
On November 10th, Mashable reports, Oprah tweeted a photo of the first official meeting between Trump and President Obama. “Everybody take a deep breath #HopeLives,” she wrote.
Oprah returned to the subject during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “It gave me hope … to hear President-Elect Trump say he had respect for President Obama, it felt he had reached a moment where he was actually humbled by that experience,” she said. “I think everybody can take a deep breath.” She then proceeded to sing, “Everybody can take a deep breath nowwww,” because she’s Oprah.
Donald Trump may be pleased to learn about Oprah’s positive remarks, considering that he once named her as his ideal running mate. Twitter users, however, were quick to push back against Oprah’s optimism. “No @Oprah we’re not going to take a deep breath,” @smaxxmahaffey wrote, “love you but with all due respect, the hatred that man has released won’t touch your life.”
