Women stage ‘pussy’ protest outside Trump Tower in New York City

(Twitter)

On Wednesday morning in Manhattan, a group of about 60 women showed up outside Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue and staged a protest denouncing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for the language he used in a bombshell hot mic tape that was leaked last Friday and has upended the presidential race just a month before Election Day.

On the tape, which was recorded in 2005, Trump is heard boasting to then-Access Hollywood host Billy Bush, of the Bush family dynasty, that because of his celebrity status, women allowed him to “grab them by the pussy.” In response, women carried signs that read “Pussies In Formation” and “Pussy Grabs Back,” in addition to other colorful messages. “If Trump thinks he runs this town, pussy came to shut it down!” the protesters shouted. They also took broader aim at the Republican party as a whole. At one point, protesters locked arms and formed a human chain around the entrance to the building, blocking people from leaving or exiting the building.

Photos and video from the scene surfaced on social media under the hashtags #GOPHandsOffMe  and #TrumpvsAllOfUs. Here’s a look at what it looked like on the ground there.

The demonstration was organized by Brigid Flaherty, who told Gothamist that the group outnumbered police on the scene and allowed them to hold their ground. Flaherty said the protesters, some of them young girls, all wore black as “a sign of militancy — that women are fighting back.”
