On Thursday, Women in the World, in partnership with Edelman, hosted the first of a series of intimate conversations in London, in which women on the front lines shared their stories and illuminated the most pressing issues facing our world today.

We were joined by some outstanding women, including the First Lady of Afghanistan Rula Ghani, the brave Ukrainian MP and army pilot Nadiya Savchenko — known as “Lady Dynamite” — who spent two years imprisoned by President Putin, as well as Executive Director of the World Food Programme Ertharin Cousin, Baroness Valerie Amos, and the courageous Yazidi refugee and recently appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking Nadia Murad Basee Taha.

Rounding off the event was renowned actress Rosamund Pike, who spoke about her upcoming film A United Kingdom. Pike stars opposite David Oyelowo as Englishwoman Ruth Williams, who married the first president of Botswana, Sir Seretse Khama.
