Supermodel Gigi Hadid had a very unwelcome encounter with known “prankster” Vitalii Sediuk during Milan Fashion Week, as she was leaving the Max Mara show where she had just graced the runway. News cameras captured the moment a man snuck up behind her, grabbed her and briefly lifted her up in the air.
“Let go of me! Who the (expletive) are you?” the clearly panicked Hadid shouted, lashing out at the assailant, at which point he dropped her. As Sediuk ran off, Hadid tried to go after him but was restrained by someone from her security detail. While this might sound like a normal reaction to unacceptable harassment, that is not how British tabloids saw the incident. “Furious supermodel Gigi Hadid lashes out at fan and has to be held back by security after prankster lifts her up as she leaves Milan fashion show,” the Daily Mail titled its article. The Sun went with “NOT MODEL BEHAVIOUR: Gigi Hadid aggressively lashes out and ELBOWS fan in the FACE after he tries to pick her up”. Hadid responded to the gratuitous headlines on social media, tweeting, “To unknown article writer: fan?!!! The ACTUAL fans that were there can tell you what happened. I’m a HUMAN BEING — and had EVERY RIGHT to defend myself. How dare that idiot thinks he has the right to man-handle a complete stranger. He ran quick tho”. Many of Hadid’s fans tweeted out messages of support for the model, applauding her for her actions and calling the news coverage “insane.” Watch video footage of the incident below.
