'A happy moment'

A simple image of a woman’s enduring love moves Twitterverse to tears

September 22, 2016

A tale of enduring love and devotion has captured the imagination of thousands of Twitter users, after 18-year-old Alicia Salas posted a photograph earlier this week taken at her grandmother’s birthday celebrations.

Texan Josie Reza, 85, is seen being serenaded by a mariachi band, clutching a photograph. The image is of her late husband, who died seven years ago. On the last birthday Reza celebrated with her husband, he surprised her with a mariachi band, and the family decided to honor her in kind this past weekend.

“As soon as she saw the mariachi, she pulled my uncle aside and asked him to get a portrait of grandpa from inside the house,” Salas said. “She was holding it close to her the whole time. It was a happy moment for her … She was crying. We were all tearing up.”

Not only has the original tweet been shared almost 20,000 times — other Twitter users have posted images of themselves shedding a tear at the sight of the Alicia’s photos.
