Some of the music industry’s biggest stars will descend on the Great Lawn in New York City’s Central Park this Saturday, September 24, for the 5th annual Global Citizen Festival. Global Citizen, a social action platform aimed at solving the world’s biggest problems, was founded as an organization in 2008 by Hugh Evans, Simon Moss and Wei Soo. The social action platform followed in 2012, and since its inception has helped facilitate more than 7.5 million actions — such as sending tweets to world leaders, signing petitions, refer-a-friend sign up campaigns, and in-person check in campaigns at embassies — that Global Citizens have taken to better the world. There’s a significant financial component to what Global Citizen does as well. Financial commitments from world leaders secured by Global Citizen through the festival exceed $25 billion. All told the actions will impact the lives of hundreds of millions.
Global Citizen also features a Girls & Women vertical on its website — a topic near and dear to our hearts, so we feel a certain kinship with the group. Because of that, we have 12 pairs of tickets to give away to the concert on Saturday. All you need to do is really know your Women in the World trivia — and prove it by answering five WITW questions. Complete official rules for the contest can be found here.
Answer correctly, and you could have a chance to see Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Demi Lovato, Major Lazer, and Metallica with special guests Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Ellie Goulding, Usher, Yandel, Yusuf / Cat Stevens. If you don’t win tickets, you can always watch it live on MSNBC.
Last year’s festival was headlined by Pearl Jam and Beyonce — and naturally, the two got together for an unforgettable collaboration. Here’s a highlight:
