'This is all of us'

Photo of pregnant doctor working with 3-year-old on her back at football game goes viral for obvious reasons

A photo of a medical doctor who is 35 weeks pregnant and working as the team physician to a high school football team while carrying her 3-year-old daughter on her back went viral — and it’s not hard to see why. The photo remarkably captures the life of the working mother, no matter what her profession is. Megan Meier said she was trying to achieve solidarity with other working mother-physicians by posting the photo on her Facebook page last Thursday. “This is all of us,” she told ABC News about the picture.

“This is what happens when you are 35 weeks pregnant, husband leaves town for the weekend, childcare for 3yo falls through, and you have a game to cover!” Meier said in the post. Her original caption for the photo was titled “Sports Medicine Doctor Mom.”

But it turns out that the image, showing Meier deftly multitasking by tending to an injured football player while keeping her 3-year-old daughter in tow, strapped to her back, resonated with mothers who work all types of jobs — and non-mothers, too. It’s racked up thousands of likes on the social media platform.

“As working parents,” Meier told ABC News, “we often have to multitask in a pinch, and it’s so much easier when people are understanding of this. We don’t make excuses — we find solutions. Fortunately for me, the teams I care for are very supportive of my situation, which has made these types of stressful scenarios so much easier.”

Meier, who is also the physician for a couple of dance troupes, closed out her post by thank people for support and musing the progress that’s been made in society. “We have come a long way in 2016,” she said.
