Eight months ago, the music world lost a legend. Famed fashion model Iman lost her husband, and until recently, her only public comment about David Bowie’s passing had been a brief tweet posted just after his death that read, “Love & gratitude.” Earlier last week, the 61-year-old model made her first public appearance since Bowie’s death, stepping out at Tom Ford’s New York Fashion Week show. A TV reporter spotted something curious about a gold necklace she was wearing as she made her way past the flashing paparazzi cameras on her way into the event. Letters spelled out the name “David,” which he asked her about.
“I’m wearing this until my death,” she told him, clutching it. The reporter praised her for being a “survivor” following the loss of Bowie, but she demurred and replied, “Not as much as you think. It’s just been a tough year, but I’m holding up.” Iman and Bowie met in 1990 and married two years later. Friends had described them as “inseparable.”
