Huma Abedin, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s closest adviser, announced Monday that she is separating from her husband Anthony Weiner, a former U.S. congressman, after Weiner was caught in another sexting scandal following a shocking report by The New York Post. “After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy,” Abedin said in a statement.
Weiner had already seen his political career implode twice after it was revealed that he sent sexually suggestive photos to women, and claimed to have gone into therapy to deal with the issue. The new allegations, published by the Post on Sunday night, showed that Weiner had been sexting for a little more than a year with “a 40-something divorcee from the West,” according to the Post’s vague description of her. The mystery woman is also an avowed Donald Trump supporter and an NRA enthusiast. In other posts on Twitter, she has openly criticized both President Obama and Clinton, the report said. Some of the content Weiner exchanged with the woman even included a photo of himself wearing white boxers, with a visible bulge, while his 3-year-old son slept in bed next to him. “Someone just climbed into my bed,” he allegedly wrote in the accompanying text, on July 31, 2015. Since the new scandal erupted, Weiner deleted his Twitter account.
