The producers of the forthcoming Ocean’s 8, which will feature an all-women cast of lead characters, is reportedly adding some serious star power to the two already onboard — and a couple of them have appeared on the Women in the World stage. According to a report by Deadline, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, and rapper/comedian Awkwafina will be joining Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock in the latest installment of the popular caper franchise. Blanchett appeared onstage last November when at the Women in the World India Summit and Kaling appeared onstage at the New York Summit in April. Only one open role remains to complete the full Ocean’s gang after the news of the latest signings.
Filming is set to begin in October according to the report as Steven Soderbergh will be behind that camera as a producer and Gary Ross will direct, working from a script he co-wrote with Olivia Milch. For Rihanna and Awkwafina, Ocean’s 8 will be their latest forays away from live performing and into film acting. Rihanna appeared in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which is set to hit theaters next year and Awkwafina, or Nora Lunn as she’s credited for acting work, recently had a role in the film Neighbors 2.
