Republican nominee unable to name a single woman he’d put in his cabinet

Wow, the question was a softball and it came from a friendly source. And, boy, did Donald Trump whiff when he took a swing at it. “Who you would actually put into office as one of your first female, in your cabinet?” Angelia Savage of Florida’s First Coast News asked Trump on Thursday. Savage is a former employee of the Trump Organization, and seemed to be trying to set one up on a tee for the nominee.

“Well, we have so many different ones to choose,” Trump began, before stammering and falling back on a tried and true rhetorical device. “I can tell you everybody would say, “Put Ivanka in, put Ivanka in,” you know that, right? She’s very popular, she’s done very well, and you know Ivanka very well,” Trump said.

OK, so we’ve got Ivanka as a possible cabinet member. Anyone else?

“But there really are so many that are really talented people — like you, you’re so talented, but I don’t know if your viewers know that,” Trump told the stunned reporter.

“Is this breaking news?” Savage wondered aloud. “Am I gonna be in the cabinet?”

“But Angelia is — she is very talented,” Trump interjected.

“Is that a yes?” Savage asked. “Sounds like it to me,” Trump responded.

Ladies and gentleman, your Republican nominee for president. In fairness to Trump, it’s entirely possible he didn’t have an answer to the question because there are no longer any Republican women who are supporting his candidacy.
