"Holiday in Tehran”

Porn star unknowingly risked the death penalty by traveling to Iran for a nose job

Twitter

A British porn actress known as Candy Charms flew to Iran for a nose job and then posted about the experience on Instagram, unaware that she could potentially face the death penalty in the extremely conservative Muslim country. Charms was one of more than 20,000 individuals to undergo rhinoplasty each year in Iran, which has a top reputation for the cosmetic surgery. Charms, upon returning to the United Kingdom, posted a photo of herself to Instagram showing herself with her eyes hidden behind sunglasses and her hair hidden beneath a scarf.

“Hey guys I have been on holiday in Tehran,” she wrote under the photo. She later added, “My nose was not straight and they are the best in the world in nose surgery. I had my nose done.”

The post sparked an immediate backlash from Iranian commenters, prompting Charms to delete the photo and an Iranian official to announce that the woman had applied for a visa through a travel agency under a different name and listed her occupation as “hair stylist.” The official, Hasan Qashqavi, warned travel companies to carefully examine the documents of individuals planning to travel to Iran because the country has “clerics and lawmakers who have cultural sensitivities and these sorts of events may cause problems later.”

In Iran, the charge of spreading corruption via broadcast carries a possible death sentence.
