On Thursday night, Ohio congresswoman Joyce Beatty wore a strikingly similar dress during her speech at the Democratic National Convention to the one Melania Trump wore for her speech at the Republican National Convention, delighting Twitter users who were quick to note the ironic imitation.

#JoyceBeatty is my new favorite legislator! She threw shade like a queen! Now that's some plagiarism for you!

Many assumed the sartorial choice was a sly reference to the accusations of “plagiarism” that followed Melania Trump’s speech to Republican National Convention last week — which bore some striking resemblances to Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention speech. Ultimately, former ballerina Meredith McIver, who describes herself as an “in-house staff writer at the Trump Organization” took the blame for Trump’s keynote debacle.
Beatty is not owning to deliberately trolling Trump, telling WCMH her husband bought her the dress especially for her DNC appearance. “Now it’s blowing up all over the nation that it’s the same as Mrs. Trump’s, but I don’t know,” she said, while adding she used her own words in her speech.
