Woman goes on honeymoon … with her honey’s parents

By WITW Staff on July 14, 2016

Two newlyweds from Lahore, Pakistan, were all set to go on their honeymoon. With plane tickets purchased and hotel rooms booked, Huma Mobin and Arsalaan Sever would make a lovely getaway to Greece. Alas, their best laid plans hit a major snag. Greek border authorities rejected Sever’s application for a travel visa. So, what did Mobin do? Not exactly what most brides might do: She went without him — and took his parents instead.

Yes, such a travel arrangement provides fertile ground for many an awkward moment, but, according to Mobin, having her new in-laws along with her was actually a consolation in the absence of her hubby.

“The first night I cried my eyes out on my mother-in-law’s shoulder, who really comforted me and told me to make the best of it,” Mobin told the BBC. Once she got over the raw emotions, she did what both she and Sever do whenever one of them travels without the other. She began posing for photos at various landmarks and showing exaggerated sadness that her beau wasn’t there too. The photos turned out to be quite amusing and, after she returned home and posted them on Facebook, they went viral. Have a look through the slide-show above and see a sampling of what Mobin posted.

And how did Mobin feel posing for these silly photos at various tourist attractions in Greece? “People were literally breaking their necks with the selfie sticks over there, so I came off really quite normal doing this,” she explained. The couple is now planning a trip to mark their first anniversary. We hope they travel together next time.
