Photo of mom breastfeeding in the middle of her wedding goes viral

Canadian mother Christina Torino-Benton, 30, was in the midst of getting married when her daughter Gemma began crying from the heat and lack of sleep. When Torino-Benton quickly began breastfeeding her daughter as the priest talked, the wedding photographer, Lana Nimmons, captured the intimate moment on camera. After the wedding, Torino-Benton decided to share the picture on a breastfeeding group’s Facebook page, where it became an immediate hit. The photo swiftly generated in excess of 7,900 likes, and dozens of mothers responded by sharing photos of themselves breastfeeding in bridal gowns in the comments section.

Benton has said she’s appreciative and welcome of the support, but that “hurtful” comments left by detractors had come as a shock to her. “It didn’t cross my mind not to nurse her while it was happening,” she told the BBC. “It was the only thing to do, really.” She does however, have a message for those who disapprove of breastfeeding in a church setting: “To those people, I say, there is nothing more natural than feeding your infant with what God gave me.”
