Court documents unsealed in Casey Anthony’s Florida bankruptcy case revealed bombshell allegations made by a private investigator who once worked for the lawyer who defended Anthony during her murder trial. Two affidavits filed by Dominic Casey, a private investigator who said he was hired by Jose Baez, the attorney who led Anthony’s defense team, contained several shocking accusations about the case. In 2008, Anthony had been charged with child neglect in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, after she reported the toddler was missing. Months later, a local meter reader found Caylee’s remains. A grand jury then indicted Anthony and she was charged with murder. Almost three years later, Anthony was acquitted of the murder charge and other charges stemming from the case, and found guilty of providing law enforcement with false information. A complete timeline of the case can be viewed here.
In the affidavits, Dominic Casey said that Anthony, upon learning that Roy Kronk, the man who discovered Kaylee’s remains, had alerted police about the find, had plotted to frame him for Caylee’s murder. Another claim in a subsequent affidavit was even more chilling. The private investigator said Baez hired him with the express mission of finding Caylee’s remains before authorities did. “Baez had told me that Casey had murdered Caylee and dumped the body somewhere and, he needed all the help he could get to find the body before anyone else did,” the private investigator is quoted as having said in the affidavit.
Anthony has been mired in bankruptcy litigation for the last three years. As her murder trial unfolded, she was reportedly broke, and her financial distress was the subject of further claims made by Dominic Casey in the court documents. The private investigator also made claims of sexual misconduct against both Anthony and Baez and even said reputed drug lord “El Chapo” became involved in the case. Baez, according to The New York Post, declined to comment on the allegations.
