Lupita Nyong’o stars in new trailer for “The Queen of Katwe”

A new trailer has been released for Queen of Katwe — the true story of Ugandan chess champion Phiona Mutesi. The film stars Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave, Eclipsed) as Phiona’s mother, Harriet Mutesi, and David Oyelowo (Selma) as a missionary who instructs children in the game of chess. Newcomer Nadina Malwanga plays Phiona in the Mira Nair-helmed Disney movie.

“There is an ease in the Ugandan demeanor that is very welcoming. I love the melody of the accent, the food, the music and the people’s inherent style,” Kenya-raised Nyong’o recently told Entertainment Weekly. “There was a familiarity with my home country being right next door but also complete surprise in what was so different.”
