Chinese women forbidden from eating bananas on live internet streams

The Chinese government is cracking down on live-streamed “inappropriate” content, in part as an attempt to shut down a popular new Chinese trend — live streams where women broadcast themselves eating bananas “erotically.” The announcement of the new regulations came a month after China’s Ministry of Culture said that all major online live streaming sites, such as Douyu and Panda.tv, were under investigation for hosting vulgar or violent content. “The new regulations require the hosts of the live-streaming service to monitor all their output 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” according to CCTVNews, China’s government-run news service. While the regulations are not yet “a fixed standard,” other activities banned by the new regulations include the wearing of stockings and suspenders while hosting live-streamed shows.
