MSNBC host caught on hot mic making sexist remarks about Melania Trump

By WITW Staff on May 5, 2016

MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews was caught on a hot mic making sexist comments about Melania Trump, the wife of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. “Did you see her walk? Runway walk. My God is that good,” the 70-year old anchor said, seemingly unaware that his comments were being broadcast live on television on Tuesday night. “I could watch that runway show,” he gleefully added.

MSNBC declined to comment on the incident, but a spokesperson for Melania Trump told Variety that she was an “accomplished businesswoman and entrepreneur in her own right,” adding that it “is unfortunate to see the continuous inaccuracies and misrepresentations made by the media of Mrs. Trump as anything less than the independently successful woman that she is.” Matthews has been a vocal critic of Trump’s derogatory language and his stance on women’s rights, however the Hardball host has had quite a few brushes with sexism himself. Variety compiled a list of Matthew’s greatest — errr, worst — hits, which range from saying Hillary Clinton looks “witchy” to comparing the Democratic frontrunner to the cold-hearted Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest to chalking up Sarah Palin’s popularity to her looks. And that’s literally just half of the list!
