Jill Soloway, creator and executive producer of Amazon’s hit show Transparent, confirmed that Caitlyn Jenner will be joining its third season, calling it “a dream come true.” In the show, which won the Golden Globe for best TV comedy last year, Jeffrey Tambor portrays Maura Pfefferman, a transgender character coming out to her friends and family. Soloway revealed the news at the GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Award, which honors people in media and entertainment for portraying LGBT issues and characters in an an authentic way.
Soloway did not give any details on Jenner’s role, but said she would begin filming her scenes next week and claimed it was easy to convince the reality TV star.
“We are all part of the same community. A lot of the trans women who work on our show are also in her show, I Am Cait,” Soloway said. “Lots of crossover. Lots of friends.” At the GLAAD ceremony last night, Transparent took home the award for outstanding comedy series, while Jenner’s reality show following her transition, I Am Cait, won (in a tie with I Am Jazz) for Outstanding Reality Program.
